Digital Geologic Maps
The Geological Survey of Alabama (GSA) participates in the STATEMAP component of the National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program. STATEMAP is a competitive federal grant program requiring matching state funds and is coordinated and managed by the U.S. Geological Survey. The purpose of the program is to produce new, detailed geologic maps of areas deemed critical to the state. In Alabama, STATEMAP geologic mapping has focused on areas where rapid urban and industrial growth is occurring. Through STATEMAP, GSA has completed and published more than 30 new geologic maps at the 7.5-minute (1:24,000) scale, and several more are in progress. The published maps are color plots and are accompanied by explanations and booklets summarizing the geology of the quadrangles. The maps and supporting documents are available for purchase from the Publications Sales Office. Digital files for selected quadrangles are available below. Digital files for additional quadrangles will be posted as they become available. Also, a link to PDFs of geologic maps and explanations for selected quadrangles where digital files are not yet available appears below.
